Using Storytelling to Explain Your Research [Ivy+ Professional Development Series] In-Person / Online
2:00-2:30pm: Learn about the elements of storytelling and how your research can become an exciting tale!
2:30-3:00pm: Identify the parts of your research that lend itself to storytelling. Participants will get a worksheet to help them.
Location: Graduate Student Center | 3615 Locust Walk | Room 304 and online
This is a hybrid session. Students who are in-person and online are welcome to stay for both parts.
About the facilitator: Dr. JoEllen McBride earned her PhD in Physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2016. She has been a AAS (American Astronomical Society) Astronomy Ambassador since 2014, was a AAAS Mass Media Fellow at Voice of America in 2016, and continues to communicate academic research to broad audiences as the Chair of the Education Committee for the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center in West Chester, PA. This workshop prepares students to participate in the Penn 3 Minute Thesis cosponsored by Career Services, GAPSA, and the Graduate Student Center.
Ivy+ Professional Development Series
This program is part of the Ivy+ Graduate Student Professional Development Series, created and cross-promoted by deans and directors at Berkeley, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, Penn, Princeton, Stanford, UChicago, and Yale to help meet the professional development needs of all Ph.D. and master’s students. These programs are also open to Penn professional students.
