Common press, Open printing [Graduate Wellness Week]

Common press, Open printing [Graduate Wellness Week] In-Person

The holidays are almost upon us; a time of exams and deadlines for all of us, but also a time of celebrations, or to borrow the words of Dickens a good time: a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time.  And amid these busywork, why not take a break and join fellow graduate students at the Common Press to slow down, get creative, and make something festive?

The Grad Center and the Common Press are hosting a hands-on holiday card event on December 1st, and we’re looking for students with an interest in design, typography, or just the joy of making something beautiful.

3:00–4:00pm : Design Session
Help create a custom holiday card using traditional movable type and letterpress blocks. (No experience required, just curiosity and a sense of fun.)

4:00–5:30pm : Open Printing
Stop by and print the finished card on the Common Press’s historic printing press. All materials provided, and every grad student is welcome to take home their own uniquely printed card — the kind of tactile keepsake you can’t get from a PDF. This session is open for all graduate and professional students, and it is only for printing! The design will be finalized in the 3:00 to 4:00pm session.

Space is limited for the design session, so sign up soon if you’d like to take part in the creative stage. If you are not interested in the design, the printing is open for all graduate students and has more available space.
